Tanglin Foundation Internship Programme
Our internship programme provides Tanglin Alumni (aged 18–25) with a unique opportunity to gain valuable work experience across the Infant, Junior, and Senior Schools. Since its launch in 2016, more than 160 alumni have taken part in the programme.
The programme is more than just work experience. It offers alumni the chance to see Tanglin from a new perspective while giving back to the school community. In the Infant and Junior Schools, interns support our youngest learners and help nurture their growth. In the Senior School, alumni share their knowledge in specialist subjects, mentor students, and provide guidance drawn from their own university and career experiences. Across all areas, our students benefit from connecting with someone closer to their age who understands their journey. The result is a vibrant exchange of knowledge, inspiration, and mentorship across generations.

TESTIMONIALS
Hear from our interns!
Ben Marshall (2025 cohort)
Junior PE Intern
"My internship with the Junior PE team gave me confidence, responsibility, and the chance to learn from some of the best teachers in their field. Every day felt meaningful – putting smiles on the children’s faces and knowing I had made a positive impact was the highlight of my experience. I quickly realised how no two classes are the same and how important it is to adapt, whether managing a lively Year 3 lesson or moving activities when the weather changed. The team trusted me with responsibilities, from leading sessions to collecting classes, which was an amazing feeling. I went into the summer thinking I wanted a business career, but this internship completely changed my perspective – it showed me that my passion lies in PE, and my dream now is to become a PE teacher at Tanglin."
Hannah (2022 cohort)
Senior Classics Intern
"My internship with the Languages Department was incredibly rewarding. I supported Year 8 students new to Latin, helping them catch up with their peers while building their confidence and enthusiasm for the subject. I also developed classroom management and tutoring skills, created a short literature curriculum for Year 9 that will be used throughout the year, and even supported a Year 13 student preparing for university Classics applications. Beyond teaching, I designed communications materials, assisted with administrative projects, and gained valuable teamwork and organisational skills. The Classics team were supportive throughout, and it was especially meaningful to reconnect with old teachers. This experience strengthened my communication, creativity, and teaching skills, and gave me confidence that I had made a real difference to both students and staff."
Katie (2023 cohort)
Year 2 Intern
"The whole process was smooth and professional, with the Alumni team always supportive and responsive. Working with Year 2 gave me an authentic insight into classroom life – from planning small-group activities to supporting behaviour systems and one-to-one learning. I developed leadership, communication, and emotional intelligence, while learning to adapt to different needs and stay calm in challenging situations. Although I plan to pursue a career in finance, these transferable skills will stay with me in any profession. Most importantly, the experience pushed me out of my comfort zone, gave me confidence, and allowed me to make a real difference to the children I worked with. I would highly recommend this opportunity to anyone wanting to grow personally and professionally while contributing meaningfully to the school community."
