The Thompson Family – 26th January 2010



We were delighted to welcome back a family who were last in Singapore during the early 1990’s.

Caroline Thompson (Class of 2003) and Daniel Thompson (Class of 2001) attended Tanglin Infant School and Tanglin Junior School from 1990 to 1992 before returning to England where they completed their schooling prior to attending university.

Caroline and Daniel were on holiday in Singapore with their parents Geoff and Heather and although they had only lived in Singapore for 2 years, it was very apparent that they have very fond memories of Singapore and Tanglin.

Although their schools were in roughly the same location, there wasn’t anything original from those days; both schools have been replaced by newer buildings since they left. However, during their tour round the school they were able to meet with Geraldine Chandran who they did definitely remember and they were thrilled to reminisce with her about both Tanglin School and the people they all remember from their time at Tanglin.

Geoff who came to Singapore on assignment with L’Oreal in 1990 now works for New Wine who run Christian Family Conferences in the UK. Heather who worked at Dovercourt School in Singapore as a Speech Therapist is now working freelance as a British Sign Language interpreter.

Caroline has a gift for languages and after gaining her degree in French and Spanish at Exeter University, she then continued with her studies to gain her Masters as Interpreter in French, Spanish and English. It is not surprising to hear that she is now working in Paris at the Argentinean Embassy, but what was also good to hear was that this career opportunity was discovered through her connections with other Tanglin Alumni.

Daniel attended Leeds Metropolitan University where he studied Music Technology. In 2004, having completed his 3 year degree course, he went on to study for a year at the Leadership Academy in the Abundant Life Church in Bradford, before moving into a full time position in their Media Department. Last Christmas Daniel left staff at the Abundant Life to launch a video editing & design graphic business. He is also keen to move into radio as a producer and would also welcome any leads from other Tanglin Alumni! ☺

Caroline and Daniel are both looking forward very much to attending the Tanglin Alumni Reunion in London on March 19th and they are also helping us to make contact with other alumni around the world.
