February 2009

Adrien, Louis and Paul Danet

The Danet family were our first alumni to stop by Tanglin Trust School on 9th February,  en route from their new home in Geneva to holiday in Bintan.

Adrien (Class of 2014), Louis (Class of 2015) and Paul (Class of 2017) left Tanglin just last July but were able to see changes to the campus since they left.

They took time to share with us their experiences in their new school the Institut International de Lancy in Geneva.  They have moved from TTS with eight classes per year to just 2 classes per year in the English section and 3 classes per year in the French section of their new school.  Adrien’s favourite time so far has been a ski week in Les Brasses in France, Louis is enjoying the chemistry experiments in his science classes and Paul is very happy as he has made lots of new friends.

The highlight of their visit to Tanglin for all three boys, who spent four years at Tanglin, was to meet with their friends from their previous classes at break time, all of whom were delighted to welcome the Danet boys back.

Please stop by next time you are in this part of the world Sophie and Pierre, Adrien, Louis and Paul – next time you visit us the new Sixth Form Centre will be open and we would love to show you round!

Malati Singh

On 19thFebruary, Malati Singh visited Tanglin having graduated from Year 13 in 2003 – our first cohort of Y13 graduates!

Malati who started at Tanglin in Infant School is still able to list all her teachers’ names for all the years she attended Tanglin right from Reception!

Malati has had a very exciting time since graduating from Tanglin.  She attended York University taking Social Sciences and Crime graduating from university in October 2006 having taken as her major subject, Illicit Drug Use.  After spending a month travelling in India, Hong Kong and Prague, Malati worked with kids and adults on probation in the UK and then returned to Singapore in May 2008.

While at university Malati was very active as the President of the Overseas Union and prior to university she was also involved in organizing events for the students at Tanglin like the Y13 Graduation Ball.  So it is no surprise to hear that since moving back to Singapore Malati is now responsible for Events and Marketing for The Screening Room in Ann Siang Road in Chinatown.  Check out www.screeningroom.com.sg to see more details on this "One venue 5 experiences” nightspot in Singapore.

Malati took a tour around school and saw many, many changes since leaving in 2003.  The fourth level of the Senior School is new, the complete Berrick Building was just a playing field when Malati was last at Tanglin and she saw the Banyan Tree in its new location adjacent to the building site that will be the new Sixth Form Centre later this year.

Malati also met with a couple of ‘icons’ here at Tanglin – Afandi and Uncle Wong, who both saw Malati throughout her years in Tanglin – starting as a little girl in Reception right the way through to one our first graduates from Year 13 – and now visiting us as a business professional in the entertainment industry!
