The first ever Tanglin Trust School Alumni Reunion was held at Tanglin Trust School on Friday, 19th June.
The main aim of the evening was to encourage the Year 13 students who were due to graduate this year from school to register as alumni. However, we also invited as many alumni and Friends of Tanglin from previous years to attend as we were able to contact.
We wanted to demonstrate to the graduating students the benefits of being able to network with alumni currently attending universities that they were about to join and to also network with alumni in business and professions to which they aspire for their future careers.
From feedback that we have received, the event was very successful and everybody who attended enjoyed the opportunity to meet, socialise and catch up with friends from their days at Tanglin.
Thirty eight Year 13 students were able to attend and 23 Alumni and Friends of Tanglin from previous years attended. Comments from those who attended included a request for more alumni to attend from earlier years – so please take note all our alumni living and working in Singapore, your presence at our alumni events is highly desired!
Sandra Berrick, Friend of Tanglin and ex Chair of the Governors attended and highlighted to the guests just how much alumni can help each other. She emphasised that alumni may be able to help with internships and career possibilities. They will be more inclined to help fellow alumni because they are "family” and their background is already known to and respected by them as potential employers. By the end of the evening Sandra had in fact already offered an internship to a Class of 2007 Alumni and was able to help with connections in business for another Class of 2003 Alumni.
Liz Seah (Class of 1977) attended with her son Tim (Class of 2008) and there were also alumni attending from earlier years who had siblings graduating and registering as alumni in 2009. This shows just how much a family we are!
For the Class of 2010 Alumni we will be scheduling the Alumni Registration Evening much earlier in the year to avoid examinations. However, we would like to invite alumni currently studying in university to attend and so we have selected a date when they will hopefully be visiting their families in Singapore during the Christmas holidays.
We also hope that all those Alumni and Friends of Tanglin living and working in Singapore will be able to attend, as mentioned earlier, your attendance and experience will be much appreciated by those who are only just starting out on their journeys following Tanglin.
